THE 2024/2025 SEASON IS ON

IT’S ALL ABOUT HAVING A GO, AND HAVING FUN!

There is no minimum skill level or experience required to participate. Some children are developing confidence in the water, some are learning new skills, and some are getting ready to compete. But everyone finishes the season with a few new friends, some great memories, and a real sense of belonging within the Phillip Island Boardriders Club.

In fact, a great number of current senior and open surfers at PIBC started in the Supergroms program! It’s the first step in getting the surfing kids of Phillip Island, comfortable in the water and having fun.

Our Supergroms Program requires varying levels of parental involvement, depending on the child’s skill level. Parents are the backbone of the program, and we love seeing everyone rally together in the water and at the presentation nights.

2024/2025 SEASON

  • Supergrom Saturdays

    Supergroms Events are held once a month on a Saturday, from November 2024 until March 2025.

    Below are the dates for the 2024/2025 season:

    • 9 November, 2024

    • 23 November, 2024

    • 21 December, 2024 (With a special Christmas celebration at Presentation Night)

    • 15 February, 2025
      - Supergroms 4: Postponed due to extreme weather in the AM.
      - Supergroms judged comp 1: will go ahead in the PM

    • 8 March, 2025

    • 5 April, 2025
      - This new date was added to replace our February event that was postponed.

    Judged Comps

    Our special judged competitions will also be held again in the 2024/2025 season. Please check our instagram for details.

    Extreme weather events or unsafe conditions may require us to postpone an event. Please join our Facebook Group or check our instagram page for any updates.

  • Depending on the participants age and ability, they will be assigned to one of the groups below at their first event.

    MINIGROMS | PINK:
    Beginner, learning to paddle and stand up on white wash (Must be assisted by a Parent/Carer)

    SUPERGROMS | YELLOW:
    Intermediate - Can stand on white wash and starting to ride unbroken waves (Must be assisted by a Parent/Carer)

    MASTERGROMS | BLUE:
    Advanced - Can catch and ride unbroken waves. Child must be confident and able to paddle out the back on their own. (Parent/Carer welcome to assist in the water.)

3 STEP SIGNUP

  • Full Program
    To participate in the full Supergroms program from November - March, you must become a PIBC member.

    Membership gives you access to all Supergroms events, presentation nights, PIBC social events, and the club newsletter for the whole year.

    Single (ONE-OFF) Events
    To participate in a single (one-off) event, please purchase a Supergroms Single Event Pass here.

  • Before the season begins, all participants need to register for events online with Google Forms.

    If you have already purchased a membership for this season, please click here to complete the 2024/2025 Supergroms Registration Form

    You don't need to have a Google account to fill out the form, but if you'd like to have the option to edit your responses, you will need one.

  • Wetsuits and Surfboards
    If you need to hire a wetsuit or surfboard, we have a few spare you can borrow. Just let us know on the Wednesday before the event, and you can pick them up from the clubhouse on the Thursday night (between 5-6pm) before the event.

    2024 Pre-Season Info Night

    If you missed this years info night, don’t worry - We’ve attached the presentation here for you to cruise through at your own pace.

ON THE DAY

  • Event location: Smiths Beach, Phillip Island

    BYO Surfboard and wetsuits
    If you need to borrow anything, please contact us at contact@pibc.com.au or fill in the form at the bottom of the page. They are also available for hire at Island surfboards for a fee.

    8.30am - PIBC volunteers set up

    8.45am - Participants arrive
    Participants and parents/carers arrive, ready to go in the water. Meet at the rally point (on the beach) to check-in and get sorted into groups.

    9am - Warm up
    Instructors from Island Surfboards will demonstrate how to paddle and popup, before heading into the water.

    9.20am - Surf
    All participants and their parent/carer can enter the water and enjoy some time in the surf together, learning new skills and gaining confidence. The instructors and other PIBC members will be out there as well, giving encouragement and guidance if needed.

    10am - End of event
    Return your rashies, and any borrowed equipment.

    Before heading home, please let the volunteers know if you’ll be attending the presentation evening that starts at 5.30pm.

  • Presentation Nights are for the entire club to get together in a social setting. We provide a free BBQ for all members, and ask that everyone bring something extra to share. Eg: chips, dips, salads, cakes, etc.

    Please note: The BBQ is $5 for all non-members

    5pm - Club room opens

    5.30pm - Food & Drinks
    Enjoy a free BBQ for all members ($5 for non-members). The bar will also be open if you wish to purchase drinks. (eftpos available)

    6pm - Supergroms Presentation
    A few Supergroms will be awarded certificates based on instructors feedback

    7pm - Groms presentation night finishes
    Seniors presentation night begins

SAFETY & SUPERVISION

  • Each participant requires a parent/carer to accompany them to each event.

  • Participants in the Pink and Yellow groups require a parent/carer in the water with them all all times.

  • It is the sole responsibility of parents/carers to supervise their children at all times. PIBC and coaches do not take responsibility for participants and parents safety in the water.

  • For safety and insurance reasons, participants who have not completed membership and registration before the event, will not be allowed to participate on the day.

New Judged Comps!

This is an initiative that gives our older and more advanced Supergroms a taste for competitive surfing, providing a bridge into our Cadet and Junior teams.
