Inject income into local economy

  • Secured over $100,000.00 in local and state government grants to renovate the clubhouse, purchase surf equipment and run subsidised programs

Host community events

  • Youth drug and alcohol free events by Bass Coast FreeZa, YMCA and Bass Coast Skateparks

  • Fundraisers for individuals experiencing hardship

  • Traditional Owner public and private ceremonies

  • Surfing Victoria and Surfing Australia opening ceremonies and surf rescue education

  • Environmental film screening and education nights

  • Launch local artists’ music albums with all proceeds going to musicians

Reduce emissions and waste

  • 8.3kW solar system with 11kW of battery storage, and energy production of 11,059 kWh per year. Equates to 200 trees planted, -3321 litres of fuel and -3774 kg C02-e greenhouse gas every year

  • “Cash for Cans” recycling account for PIBC www.cdsvic.org.au

  • Limit one use plastics at clubhouse events, and encourage members to bring own water bottles

  • Island Regeneration Tip to regenerate bandicoot habitat around the clubhouse, planting local seed provenance endemic Ecological Vegetation Class (EVC) species and densities www.pibc.com.au/store/island-regeneration-tip

  • Swap and Sell Surf Meets, to swap old surf equipment, boards, wetsuits and clothing

Ongoing action in inclusivity

  • Practice inclusivity across all lines of governance, with measures profiled at www.sgst.com.au/news/pibc-committed-to-inclusivity

  • Membership forms include nominated pronouns instead of gender

  • Longboard competition format of all genders and ages surf in heats together, with best two waves counted for each athlete and of two heats

  • Removed all alcohol branding from competition rash vests for all ages

  • Replaced paver pathways with a concrete ramp to enable all abilities access to clubhouse

  • Four days a week yoga program open to the general public at a highly subsidised rate
